Finding Places to Stay
There are many options as to where you park your motorhome overnight. I have outlined these on the page “Where to Stay”. Below are websites which help in finding campsites, aires, wildcamping places and more.
By far our favourite site for finding places to stay. It has a great app and it is well worth buying the pro version for a few dollars.
Great site for campsites. they have books, apps and a discount camping book. It is a dutch site but everything is also in English.
Another Dutch site that also has an app. The app is in English and the pro version costs only a few dollars. Try it, update to pro if you like what you see.
This is a french site that was one of the first to have downloadable POI’s. The site is in french , use Google translate or ask a french speaker to help.
This site boasts Europe’s largest and most accurate website for downloading POI’s of campsites. 34,084 but who’s counting !!!. They also have the POI’s for the ACSI camping card and the Camping Cheques. We have found it a very useful source of information. They also have an App which can be downloaded. The site is Dutch but in English.
A site for finding places to stay in Portugal. Has a downloadable data base which can be downloaded to your navigational device.
This is a British site with sites from all over Europe. It has plenty of information with photos and other useful details. You have to register but this is free.
We have used the France Passion sites many times during our travels. You pay for the book and receive a card and a sticker for your motorhome. There are over 1900 places to stay all over France.
Similar to the France Passion idea with over 1000 sites in the UK. Stops at farms, vinerys , pubs, breweries etc. We have not used this book as we have not travelled in the UK with our motorhome. Have heard its worth getting.
Useful Motorhome Information
A great place for motorhoming books. All the aires , Camperstop, ACSI camping card, French passion and heaps more. We are a regular customer.
Site for finding places that sell LPG. Have used this site to find locations to refill our gas bottle. In some countries they can be hard to find.
This site has some great advice on documentation needed, what to carry, winter tyres, road rules , toll roads and heaps more. It also has a Country by Country Guide with loads of useful info.
When traveling in Spain this page explains the difference between parking and camping. A very useful piece of information.
This is a card well worth getting as it gives you discounts at campsites and acts as an identity card. You hand over the camping card instead of your passport. Included in the card is an insurance benefit while staying in campgrounds.
These two links explain what the Umwelt Zones are. In Germany driving through these area’s without the proper sticker may end up with a hefty fine. How to get a sticker is also covered in these sites.
Motorhome Groups and Forum Sites
These sites are full of great information. They are free to view but to get involved they charge a subscription fee. The members include experienced motorhomers who can give you useful advise, just post your questions on the forums.
