Prague to Vienna 8th May 2009

Saturday, 3rd April fine & sunny,

Visited old town of Prague, We had to go back as the 3 hour tour with a guide just skimmed over the town. so we headed back on the tram to see the sights in a more leisurely way. We walked up through a park into the Old town with a lot of other tourists and was amazed at how busy it was. We found a very nice place to have a coffee with a wonderful view, but I think we paid extra for the view. sometimes you have to do these things.

Sunday 4th April fine & sunny,

Packed up early and left Prague to go to Austria. We followed the road down through forests and rural paddocks, the drive was very pretty. We stopped in a town near the border and filled up with gas so we could use the last of our Czech money then headed over the border to find a place for the night. We stopped at what was a camperstop next to the town hall, but decided that it was not the best place and headed out of town to find something better. After another dud we found ourselves in a carpark of a Nature park and it was lovely and quiet and scenic. The next morning we went for a short walk but it started to rain so it was decided to head off towards the Danube. After a bit of a muddle with the GPS, I think it was having a bad day, we found a campsite next to the Danube river in a forested area. Lovely. The rain continued to fall so we decided to hole up for the rest of the day and catch up with some reading.

Tuesday 5th

Went for bike ride along river to next town called Au,, packed up and followed the romantic road along the Danube. Stopped for night in picnic area on side of road near Marbad. This was not so quiet next to the road at first but as it got late the traffic quietened down and we had a peacful night.

Wednesday 6th more rain

Followed river to to the town called Melk. Visited Abbey on the top of the hill. This was a rather large ostentatius place full of golden statues and icons. Hard to beleive this place is for monks. Though it was rather impressive and the library was really amazing. The Church was just about the most decorated that we have seen you needed sunglasses just to look at all the gold. Stopped for night in a camperstop by river at Aggsbach Markt.

Thursday 7th

After a morning ride we left and continued along river to Krems where we did a bit of shopping and had a look at the old town.Stopped for night at Camperstop by train station at Kirstnerwhere we can catch a train straight into Vienna.17kms. Not the prettiest of sites, but its free and we can empty the loo and get as much water as we like. It is almost like home with the trains going by, but they are much louder than what we can hear at Glenalta.

Friday 8th Fine & sunny

After a few housekeeping tasks caught the train to Vienna.Ahh Vienna

Truly an amazing City. We decided to get a tour in a old time bus so that we get the layout of the place and a bit of history and background. We find this is the easiest thing to do at first as we just wander around in circles and find it hard to see everything. so this was a really nice ride and saved our legs too. After the tour we managed to finally find the tourist info office and then a internet cafe. So after a Wiener Schnitzel lunch we could catch up a bit with our emails etc.
